It's Worse for YOU

"The more you've paid for a belief, the more being proven wrong can cement it even further."

This video analyzes the move The Truman Show and compares it to our current reality. What leads people to hold onto a lie, even when the truth is right in front of them with ample evidence?

Mentions Plato's Cave, The Matrix, the Demiurge, the Truman Show Dome. Waking up is painful in each example.

In 1998 when the Truman Show was made, that was before social media, YouTube, smartphones, etc. Now, this is represented as a terms of service agreement where everything is tracked and we are the product, etc. We could go deeper into VR/AI (false reality) or towards real life (unfilmed). Fear is the means of control.

He's careful not to get into conspiracy theories, but mentions real examples of false narratives/psyops (Gulf of Tonkin, etc).

"Ultimately, Truman prefers his cell." Do we even want the truth?

"Gnosis starts pointing inward."

3 Points

  1. Hunt down the seams, not the villains. - What is this trying to make me do? What does it do, not who is behind it?
  2. Audit your own dissonance first. - What are the beliefs that you defend fastest? These are the load bearing walls that holds up your "Seahaven" town.
  3. Break character in small doses. - the room gets weird and you don't rush to laugh it off anymore. Don't bury it under manners. "I'm not sure that explains it." Be harder to rush and harder to flatter. Harder to shame back into character.

Offer the door when it's someone else's cage; don't push them through it.

The pitch: Safety in exchange for the world.

Truman's realness was the product.
